Harmony for Humanity

The purpose of this blog was to keep students, their families, and my friends aware of what is going on in my professional life. As I begin my retirement, the purpose will change.

I grew up in a wonderful town, Harvey, Illinois and had wonderful music teachers; I attended a number of universities, but DePauw and Loyola had the most impact on me. I enjoy finding old friends from New Orleans now, especially after H. Katrina.

Bravo! A Wonderful "Enchanted Evening"

Kudos to both orchestras for Thursday night's performances. Our principal, Mrs. Constantino, thought you did a magnificent job. our guest conductor/composer was also very pleased with the performance of her two compositions. A great "world premiere" on "Mist", students. Now, on to the Holiday concert December 11th.

Congratulations go to Amanda Mosely, Katie Snay, Louis Oriondo, and Andrew Kazemian for superiors in cello solo; Shnequa Mixon, Jennifer Ashiru, Janiece Edwards, and Erica Lewis for superiors in violin solo, and Katie Snay and Lou Oriondo superiors for cello duet. Kudos to Richard Howes for his Red medal in cello solo. Hopefully more students will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to play and shine!

Preparations for Fall Concert!

All the racing around has begun for our Fall concert on 10/23 at 5:30 P.M. in the PAC. Formal dresses have arrived and will be distributed on Friday for the girls, and the guys are getting their tuxes in order. Students will be learning about Daniel Pearl, since our concert is dedicated to "Harmony for Humanity" this year. In addition, we are looking forward to working with and meeting our old friend, Shirl Jae Atwell. She is an Emmy winner for her PBS production of her ballet "Lucy". We will perform two selections written by her. The students sound good, and they are very excited . So am I!
