Harmony for Humanity

The purpose of this blog was to keep students, their families, and my friends aware of what is going on in my professional life. As I begin my retirement, the purpose will change.

I grew up in a wonderful town, Harvey, Illinois and had wonderful music teachers; I attended a number of universities, but DePauw and Loyola had the most impact on me. I enjoy finding old friends from New Orleans now, especially after H. Katrina.

Time for All State/Solo and Ensemble Registration

During this week I will sign up any interested students for the November Solo and Ensemble festival. This is always such a pleasure for me; I enjoy seeing our students take the time and interest to really push themselves musically. Also, I am hoping I get a few more students to audition for County Honors Orchestra this year. We shall see....

Fundraising has begun!

Another fall tradition has begun; the Encore Pizza/Cookie Dough fundraiser will start today! I hope we do well; we are smaller in numbers and in greater need! My classes are doing well. If ONLY we had our copier back so I could give each child their music.

Thanks for a great Summer Camp!

On behalf of the instructors and myself, I'd like to thank the 75 students who partook of this unique program. Our two orchestras learned quite a bit of new music, and some good sounds were made. Basses, next year make sure you sign up EARLY so you can have an instrument; we had 14 bass students this summer! I've just returned from the Texas Orchestra Directors Convention in San Antonio (100+ degree weather was unbelievable!) with new ideas and the freshest music possible. I look forward to the beginning of the school year on August 10th.
