Harmony for Humanity

The purpose of this blog was to keep students, their families, and my friends aware of what is going on in my professional life. As I begin my retirement, the purpose will change.

I grew up in a wonderful town, Harvey, Illinois and had wonderful music teachers; I attended a number of universities, but DePauw and Loyola had the most impact on me. I enjoy finding old friends from New Orleans now, especially after H. Katrina.

Festival was wonderful!

As usual, our students outdid themselves, doing well in prepared performances as well as sight reading new music. As I judged throughout the state, I realized how lucky we are to have our wonderful PAC and student body. Our final concert is on May 14th in the PAC; Stardust 2009!

Thanks for a wonderful Festival week

All three orchestras outdid themselves last week at the annual GMEA Orchestra Evaluation Festival. In particular, the rebirth of the Symphony Orchestra was wonderful to see and to hear. Many thanks to Mr. Petway for his work with the orchestra and for his willingness to conduct one of the numbers at the festival. The judges' comments were all positive, and I made sure they did not realize we were the only school there that did NOT have orchestra class every day until AFTER we played. All three orchestra did an outstanding job in sightreading portion of the festival, and even though I did tell Mr. Kirshner NOT to rate us, he did, giving us all superior ratings! I look forward to the Spring Stardust 2009 concert on May 7th. Many thanks to those parents who have paid their $50 participation fee. With the freeze on county funds, that's the only money left to buy necessary supplies and equipment to finish the year. I will let everyone know if we will be allowed to have our usual summer camp and other free programs as soon as Ms. Cicco finds out for us.
