Harmony for Humanity

The purpose of this blog was to keep students, their families, and my friends aware of what is going on in my professional life. As I begin my retirement, the purpose will change.

I grew up in a wonderful town, Harvey, Illinois and had wonderful music teachers; I attended a number of universities, but DePauw and Loyola had the most impact on me. I enjoy finding old friends from New Orleans now, especially after H. Katrina.

Fun times at the Strand Theater

This past Sunday I began three weeks of performances of the "Pirates of Penzance" sponsored by the Atlanta Lyric Theater. The performances and rehearsals are all at the newly renovated Strand Theater on Marietta Square. It is fun to play the cello again, but I am NOT used to the late hours anymore. Fortunately, I live only 10 minutes away from the Square, so it's easy traveling. I highly recommend this production; the production values and singing are really top-notch!

Final Days

Our Spring Concert, Stardust 2009, will be held in the Auditorium on Thursday, May 14th at 5:30 P.M. We will begin with the 9th/Intermediate Orchestra, The combined Advanced/Chamber Orchestras, and conclude with the Symphony Orchestra. We will be followed by four of the McEachern Bands, and you are encouraged to stay! Dress for the concert is "fancy" dress. No orchestra dresses or tuxes, but no jeans/flip flops! We used to say "Sunday Best", but I'm not so sure that works(At my place of worship, we actually have the dress code in the bulletin every week!). Our banquet scheduled for April has been cancelled due to budget cuts; we simply have run out of funds this year! Awards will be given at the concert and in class. Information about the summer camp in July will be on my McEachern Orchestra page and the school webpage. If I haven't met any parents yet, I hope you will stay after the concert in May to say "hello".
